Sarah has worked as a professional journalist for more than 15 years, including for The West Australian, The Australian, The Adelaide Advertiser and The Guardian.

She spent almost a decade in the parliamentary press gallery in Canberra reporting on federal politics, most recently as The Guardian’s chief political correspondent. She also served on the board of the National Press Club of Australia.

In late 2023 she began a new role as a senior correspondent for The Guardian’s national investigations team.

She has been a regular commentator on current affairs, including as a regular panellist on the ABC’s Insiders program.

Martin has a first-class honours degree in History from the University of Adelaide, receiving the Lynda Tapp prize and Tinline prize for History.

In 2025, Martin was nominated for a Walkley award for the podcast series, Gina, which examined the life of Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart.
